A fairytale old town of spires, Charles Bridge and Prague Castle.
Prague's historic centre came through the 20th century largely intact, and its towers and spires are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Charles Bridge, lined with baroque statues, crosses the Vltava to the Lesser Town, with Prague Castle on the hill above.
In the Old Town Square, crowds gather on the hour to watch the astronomical clock, first installed in 1410. Nearby, the Jewish Quarter, Josefov, has historic synagogues and an old cemetery.
Traditional beer halls serve Czech lager, and in December a Christmas market fills the Old Town Square.
