The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and café life along the Seine.
Paris needs little introduction. The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the banks of the Seine, themselves a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are the classic sights, and a boat trip along the river is an easy way to see many of them in an hour.
The Musée d'Orsay holds a major collection of Impressionist paintings, and the hilltop village of Montmartre has an artists' square and views across the city. Notre Dame cathedral reopened in December 2024 after its restoration following the 2019 fire.
Disneyland Paris is about 40 minutes east by train, and the Palace of Versailles makes a good half day trip.
Entry rules depend on your passport and the purpose of your trip, and they can change, so check the official sources below before you book. France uses the EU's Entry/Exit System for short stay visitors who are not EU nationals. The EU's official Travel to Europe site explains it, along with the ETIAS travel authorisation.
Read TravelHealthPro's France page and book a travel health appointment well before your trip if you have any health questions. Summer days can be warm, so carry water and use sun protection when you spend long hours outdoors. Travel insurance that covers medical care is sensible.
The currency is the euro (EUR). Carry some cash for small purchases and markets, tell your bank before you travel, and check what your card charges for payments abroad.

May, June and September usually bring mild, fairly sunny days. July and August are the warmest months, while November to February are cool with little sunshine. Rain falls in every month, so pack a light waterproof.

The Métro is usually the easiest way to get around Paris. The RER suburban rail network was built to complement it and reaches further out, including Charles de Gaulle Airport.
Paris has two main airports: Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), about 23 km northeast of the centre, and Paris Orly (ORY), about 13 km south. Both have rail links into the city, the RER B from Charles de Gaulle and Métro line 14 from Orly.
