Menorca has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1993, and much of its coast is undeveloped, with pine fringed coves such as Cala Macarella and Cala Turqueta reached on foot.

The island has two towns with very different characters: Mahón, on a deep natural harbour, and Ciutadella in the west, the former capital, with a cathedral and a pretty port. The prehistoric Talayotic sites dotted around the island were added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2023.

The Camí de Cavalls coastal path runs right around the island.
